Tooth decay is the most common chronic disease among children. While there have been improvements in other age groups, evidence suggests that the rate of tooth decay in young children is increasing, especially among preschool-aged children. Dr. Lalumandier is the founder of the Healthy Smiles Sealant Program, a joint initiative of the Saint Luke's Foundation, the CWRU School of Dental Medicine, and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, which seeks to reduce disparities in oral health care for children in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District as well as educate dental students about the importance of community service. Dr. Lalumandier will present his work with the Healthy Smiles Sealant Program and discussants will talk about their experiences in the community as well as talk about the policy implications for improved oral health.
