Posted on March 17, 2016

As the Cleveland Community Policy Commission reviewed their policies regarding use of force, Policy Director Gabriella Celeste provided recommendations on what CPC should consider during the process, specifically on how children and youth may be impacted by the policies. These suggestions included exercising discretion, understanding context, using minimum force necessary, and implementing developmentally-informed practices in order to have the best outcomes for youth. Strategies for Youth also submitted recommendations to have considered. The policies are still in review.

Celeste’s complete recommendations can be read here.

Comments on the draft CDP Use of Force Policies was submitted to the Consent Decree Monitor and members of the Cleveland Monitoring Team on September 21, 2016.
